hahaha Susan - I guess you can say that we learned through trial by fire huh? At the same time though, I still don't comprehend how you or Virginia or Lisa or anyone could do 4 sessions a day for 2 days or more... THAT is something I'd be scared to even consider. Unless at the end of it there was a month-long vacation in the tropics waiting to greet me. maybe. Or a good jacuzzi I could soak in for a week. :-)

In order:

Probably.

Probably.

It's different every time.

Foolish mortal, there are no bathroom breaks.

Advil, ice and pure stubbornness.

Seriously though, thank you SO much for pitching in. I was frantic mid-afternoon on Monday and by the end of the day, I knew the coverage was going to be in good hands. You, Gil and Dana are my heroes.

John,

I agree that it's important to consider whether adding an opinion adds to the value of the process. And that's what I attempted to do, given that speakers don't speak in the same way they would if they were writing, nor can non-attendees get the full grasp of a presentation, only what a writer can extract, and then hopefully expand without butchering :-) It's all new to me though and your feedback is most welcome!

Thanks for the great coverage! There's really Art & Science in live blogging ;-)

I don't think live blogging should skew the presentation a lot, although it is certainly an opportunity to include meaningful editorial where helpful to the reader. In my experience, things like "this dude sounds so condescending to me" is okay because, well, the dude might not know he sounds that way to you. It's reporting from the live event. Quite different from "this dude IS so condescending". The latter asserts fact... and sans proof, well, let's just say it leans more towards junk science and propaganda than "reporting".

I think your coverage here was better than live reporting... you put together some parts into more concise and clear statements and that benefits the reader. You could only do that if you had insights into the material. Thanks for adding that.

BTW I think headlines are so important. The "PageRank Sculpting Works" headline doomed an honest attempt at scientific analysis. "Live Blogging Coverage" headline sort of precludes the option of inserting a lot of inline personal opinion, especially if asserted as fact.

We do have interesting jobs, for sure.
