I got slammed by the Panda myself aswell...

I have been looking for ways around the Google Panda update and I conducted a whole bunch of experimenting on my own websites.
Right here are a couple of tips to consider:

1) reduce bouncerate on your web sites
2) remove/nofollow/noindex thin and poor quality pages
3) boost Click Through Rate in the search results (E.g implement crazy call to actions and things inside your page titles)
4) give more value with your site (maximize visitors onpage time)
5) interlink your site with optimized anchor texts
6) use a privacy policy, bulletpoints, paragraphs, subtiles, images, address/phone number, SSL, google maps location, contact us, about us etc etc (every "achievable" added quality factors you can think of)
7) Achieve more quality backlinks with good anchor text variation.

Link-building has to be done in a very diverse and consistent fashion.

Thanks for sharing Alan - would have been a great session to attend.

You mention the several common factors that you see in sites given the "myopic seo" treatment and say they're done by either a consultant, agency, or site owner. Unfortunately for our industry, I think it's about 90-95% consultant / agency that does this. Time and time again I speak to potential clients that have been burned by a consultant / agency in the past and while it's terrible to see their traffic tank after an update like Panda, I think it helps those in our industry that practice "sustainable" SEO.

As the Panda updates roll out 1, 2, 2.2, etc., it will weed out the spammy SEOs that still optimize like it's 2003. It's quite obvious that content & UX is becoming more and more important, so sustainable SEO is the only way to go.
